Hooray for Fremont,
CA and San
Francisco, CA!
Both are rated as among the “Top
100 Cities to Raise a Family” according to Children’s Health magazine (from Rodale,
the publishers of Men’s Health, Women’s Health, and assorted health books).
In fact, Fremont
was rated an impressive #5, and San
Francisco #14.
These are the two highest rated California
cities. Cities such as San
Diego, San Joe and Anaheim
appear much further down the list.
What are the ratings based upon?
While one should never mistake magazine journalism research for an actual peer
reviewed scientific journal, they did analyze 30 factors of interest to
parents. These included aspects of city
life such as education, cultural activities, crime rates, safety, health indicators,
and housing.
Although I am surely biased (I
chose to locate my offices in these cities for good reasons!), I agree with the
opinion that Fremont
has much to offer. Much is written the
world over about our famous city by the bay, San Francisco. Yet Fremont
is often maligned as a rather dull, center-less, suburb. Yet within its large expanse, Fremont boasts remarkably
consistent hidden gems. These include devoted
parents, beautiful parks, engaged citizens, challenging schools, medical
centers, and a rich cultural diversity in terms of language, peoples, and
restaurants that rivals any fancy city.
To my Fremont clients and families – pat your selves
on the back! For being a big part of what makes this a vibrant and accepting
city that nourishes children and families from all walks of life.
